Filming Skate

Hey guys. A few of my buddies skateboard, and they want me to do a film of them. Ive never shot people skating before, so I have no experience. Has anyone ever done this before? Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Hey that's awesome. I'm planning on making a skate film this summer, with me and the local skaters in it. Anyways check out some skate videos, which you can either buy from local skate shops, or order onlne at www.ccs.com or other sites, or else download some off of kazaa. Or ask your skate bubbies for some. Here's a list of really awesome videos you should check out. (keep in mind the guys in these videos are mostly pros)

basically i'd say fuck all the skate video's you've ever seen because they're all same fucking deal.

For effects you should get a wide angle lense, because with that you can view both the ground, the skater and the jump in the air. Wide angle lense is a must have.

If you can skate yourself you should definetely ride along the skaters, gives a nice looking effect.

Basically, it's either easy as heaven or hard as hell. Just go out to your spot, skate and think of nice angles when you're there. Your friends just want to have nice shots of them doing flipflops or whatever. That's the most important bit.

Emjen, all the skate movies I listed consisited of shots that you explained. I'd say still watch them just to help you out. It's just like watching a normal movie and looking at the effects or camera veiws in it, and then trying to replicate a similar effect or camera angle in a one of your own movies. The skate beside thing was good to recommend, but don't forget to get really soft wheels, other wise you'll hear them in the movie. Also a wide angle lens is very good to have but i would say abosultely necessary.
